Alamo Basement is a non-traditional theater troupe based in Southeast Wisconsin. Their first performance was a 24-hour theater show on January 17, 2004. Since then, they have performed over 30 shows built around more than 100 short plays.
The troupe has labeled their style "sketch theater." It is similar in structure to sketch comedy, but also incorporates drama, improv, forum theater, puppetry, dance, musicals, opera and storytelling.
Along with their Wisconsin performances in Milwaukee and Madison, they also performed at the Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
On July 8, 2006, Alamo Basement performed their first full-length play at the Broadway Theatre Center in Milwaukee. The play, (a two act, 80 minute piece titled "Oh My God, Peter's Dead") was written during the 24 hours previous to the performances. The cast of twelve rehearsed the play as it was written by a team of five playwrights. The entire process was followed by a team of videographers for a potential documentary.
